The Pap smear is a test used to screen for cervical changes. The cervix is located at the lower end of the uterus. In some instances, these cellular changes can lead to cervical cancer. If treatment is indicated, many of these procedures can be performed within our facility with favorable outcomes.
HPV Culture with Typing
HPV or Human Papillomavirus is the most common sexually transmitted infection. There have been more than 100 types of this infection identified. Some of these types of HPV lead to cancer of the cervix. With amplified testing, the HPV virus can be narrowed down to both low and high risk, allowing for appropriate treatment recommendations based on the infection identification.
The Gardasil Vaccination protects against the two types of HPV that lead to cervical cancer, as well as two types that cause genital warts. The vaccination is recommended for those individuals between the ages of 9-26. The Gardasil Vaccination is administered over a six-month period, and consists of three separate doses.

The biopsy consists of the physician removing a piece of the abnormal tissue, which will be sent to the laboratory for interpretation. The result of the biopsy will determine the recommended plan of treatment.
